There are two types of residence permit in Andorra: passive and active.
Passive Residence Permit requires staying on the territory of Andorra at least 183 days a year, and prohibition of any employment or occupation.
Active Residence Permit allows employment or professional activity, but it is much more difficult to get it.
A residence permit obtained for the first time is valid for one year. Subsequent Residence permits are issued for a period of three years. After 10 years of staying in the resident status a permit for an indefinite stay in Andorra may be granted.
The residence permit is a plastic card with a photograph. The principal applicant who applies for a residence permit for himself can get it for his family members.
To obtain a passive residence permit we need a client to provide us with identity documents, documents confirming marital and financial status, status and availability of funds enough for a stay in Andorra, and other essential information which will be requested after reviewing the situation of the client.
It usually takes 3 - 4 months to issue a residence permit and 2 visits to Andorra in average.
Conditions for obtaining a passive residence permit

- Opening a bank account in a bank of Andorra (personal presence is required) with a deposit of at least 33,000 euro and 11,000 euro extra for each family member + EUR 30,000 (for main applicant) and EUR 7,000 for each family member for subsequent deposit after the positive decision of the migration service. This deposit is refunded after the loss of resident status.
